RECORDING STONES - bringing this imagery into sculptural work???
leading to acoustic deflectors biased off stones/standing stones synthesised with military and industrial imagery such as the dam at Ben Cruachan
Synthesising military materials and structures that sit in contrast to the highly synthesised hiking materials that litter the Scottish landscape and how both materials impose themselves on the natural environment, yet aren't perceived in peoples reading of the Highlands.
Patterns mimic the landscape, the invisible soundscape in the form of waves creating forms that are reminiscent of sleeping bags, parachutes, emergency blankets, blow up beds, quilted jackets...
STARWARS at Ben Cruachan - conflates ideas that there is something Sci-fic about these landscapes whilst at the same time being ancient and out-with time.
Sculptural materials taken from layers of time within the landscape, referencing artefacts found, structures that exist and ones yet to be created...
Seeking to erode the binary categorisation of industry and nature, and who we traditionally view landscapes through periods of time. Much like a Claude glass this work is not editing out the historical narrative of the landscape to look at one period but seeking to interoperate it as a whole much like one would see a person, not as one facet of themselves but as a complete whole. Leading back to Nan Shepherd’s work, perceiving the landscape as a living organism moving away from romantic ideals that have dominated representations of the Scottish landscape.
